The Fattoria di Castiglionchio farm is really an old fortified settlement, dating back to the 12th century, halfway up the hill in the small valley of the "Mulino delle Rivolte" stream,, 15 km from Florence.
It boasts a historic past and many famous owners, "...the house is towered and has several annexes, the ancestral property of the noble family, Ricasoli Zanchini, formerly known as "Da Castiglionchio" of Florence,.," the family name of the famous jurist, Lapo da Castiglionchio, originates from this little castle.
The tower and the palace, both still standing, still have the two original castle doors. This is the very tower where Messer Lapo lived and where he kept his family’s contracts and manuscripts.
Castiglionchio is found only 15 km from the centre of Florence, rich in history, art and culture. Immersed in typical Tuscan countryside amongst vineyards, olive groves and rolling hills.
The apartments are all in the romantic, rustic style fitting of an eighteenth century farmhouse; terracotta floors, wooden beamed ceilings, wrought iron or four poster beds and open fires in the living area, they're also equipped with satellite TV and direct dial telephones. Each apartment has its own outdoor area with chairs, table and sun shade.
Two outside swimming pools are within easy walking distance of the apartments as is the tennis court and children's play area. There's also the opportunity to enjoy horse riding and mountain biking on the estate.
Guided visits of the farm take place weekly allowing the clients not only to see the wine cellars and country life museum, but also sample the farm products. Activities for children are organized and an Internet Point is available at the reception.

Like a fairytale, Meleto Castle announces itself in the enchanting Chianti landscape at the end of a pleasant driveway lined with cypresses and junipers, amid sun-kissed fields and vineyards. Meleto welcomes the visitor, the tourist and the lover of nature!
The structure stands amid sun-kissed fields and vineyards, not far from the boundary between the ancient Republics of Siena and Florence, about 1 Km from Gaiole in Chianti.
A dreamlike place no longer exclusive to the Tuscan aristocracy but also open to you. A magnificent testimony of history and the industrious presence of man. Today more than ever we are invited to plunge into the peacefulness of the countryside to savour its tastes and perfumes (wine, the odour of cellars and oil-mills, the wood of the furniture, grain, the thousand essences of field and meadow) forgetting time and its frenetic rhythms on the other side of the hills.
The Castle belonged to the Benedictine monks of the Coltibuono Abbey. You can visit its massive 15 th century fortifications with an imposing cylindrical tower built as protection against artillery fire. But there is also the aristocratic grace of the villa nobile, with its sequence of furnished and decorated rooms, and an unparalleled 18th century theatre.
There are fine rooms with canopied double bed.
The prices of all the B&B rooms in the Castle and the Canonica include breakfast in the old Farm kitchen on the first floor of the Castle where there is a great mediaeval fireplace.
There are also six apartments with a terrace or garden for life in the open air. Just 100- 150 metres away there's a fine swimming pool.
Meleto is in the Municipality of Gaiole, about 1 kilometre from the built up area. In Gaiole and environs there are many pizza parlours, restaurants and inns to suit all tastes and pockets.
And from Meleto you can make easy day trips to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo, Perugia, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Chianciano, Bagni Vignoni, Pitigliano and Saturnia.
From Meleto you can walk or organise bicycle excursions, but for a pleasant stay with plenty of opportunities we advise a car.
